Complete Guide to Deleting Your Google Activity Data

mediumevergreenBy OPV Privacy Desk||6 min read

Google collects an extraordinary amount of data about its users including search queries, location history, YouTube watch history, voice recordings from Google Assistant, Chrome browsing data, and ad interaction profiles. Most users are unaware of the scope of collection or how to delete it. This guide covers every deletion option available, from individual activity types to complete account data removal, with instructions current as of 2026.

Web and App Activity

Navigate to myactivity.google.com to view and delete your search history, app usage data, and Chrome browsing history. Google stores every search query, every website visited through Chrome, and every app interaction on Android devices. To delete: click Delete Activity By, select All Time, and confirm deletion. To prevent future collection, toggle Web and App Activity to Off. Note that turning this off will reduce Google service personalization.

Location History

Google stores a detailed timeline of every place you have visited at timeline.google.com. This includes GPS coordinates, visit duration, travel routes, and associated photos. To delete: go to timeline.google.com, click the settings gear, select Delete All Location History. To prevent future tracking, go to Google Account Settings, Data and Privacy, Location History, and toggle to Off. Note that some Google services may still collect approximate location data even with this setting disabled.

YouTube and Voice Data

YouTube stores your complete watch history, search history, and comment history. Delete at myactivity.google.com/product/youtube. Google Assistant stores voice recordings of every interaction. Delete at myactivity.google.com/product/assistant. For comprehensive cleanup, visit Google Takeout at takeout.google.com to download a complete copy of your data before deletion, then proceed with deletion of each category.

Key Findings

  • Google stores search queries, location data, voice recordings, YouTube history, and Chrome browsing for all users
  • Deletion requires navigating multiple separate settings pages with no single toggle for complete privacy

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Google really store all my searches?
Yes. Google stores every search query, every website visited through Chrome, every YouTube video watched, every Google Assistant voice command, and detailed location history unless you explicitly disable these features.
How do I delete everything?
Visit myactivity.google.com, click Delete Activity By, select All Time, and confirm. Repeat for each activity category. Then disable future collection in Google Account Settings under Data and Privacy.
Does deleting stop future collection?
Deleting removes stored data but does not stop future collection. You must also toggle off Web and App Activity, Location History, and YouTube History in your account settings to prevent new data from being collected.
